Update Picture six…All finished and ready to go to America.
Update Picture five…Nearly finished, just a few little tweeks here and there, then mini Brandon will be ready to go to his owner. I also have a leather collar to make with a name disc.
Update Picture four… Final curly layer is very time consuming but well worth the effort. I should be able to finish this layer today and maybe even add ears and a topknot, this will make him look a lot more like a poodle.
Update Picture three… You won’t see much change here but I have been tightening everything up, picking at it here and there, making sure the sitting pose is secure and that he doesn’t keep popping back up. Ready now for the final layer, I love this bit, I can start to turn him into Brandon the pet miniature poodle rather than a frame with merino wool attached.
Update…Picture two. Added a bit more bulk to the body and started to get him into sitting position, have yet to needle felt the curly layer. Inset the glass eyes and stabbed around the eye and nose area. Didn’t get too long to spend on him over the weekend but hope to do more work on Tuesday. I really love making poodles, but I guess I would as we have a wonderful standard poodle boy called Kite.
Update…Picture one. A frame or armature was made and a layer of black merino wool was needle felted to that frame. I don’t worry about the true colour or shape too much as this is only the first layer of wool and something for the main layers to be needle felted onto. I have carded black and a little slate merino wool together ready for the next layer tomorrow.
Today I will spend the day needle felting. I will post a picture of my work this evening.
I am going to post updates of this little dog until he is finished. You are welcome to follow my journey.

Hello! Your poodle is beautiful!! I have created a needle felt that looks just like your of my brother’s off-white-colored p poodle. Problem is, I am stuck at photo #3. I don’t know how to put curls on him. What roving do I buy and how do I attach it without ruining the curls? I tried curls from the actual dog but couldn’t get it to attach. Can you give me some tips and/or point me in the right direction? Thank you so much in advance!

Hello Caroline…You don’t need curly wool to make a nice curly coat (Any wool will do)…Just lots of time and patience. Insert a length of wool into the dog, then twist the unattatched wool that is hanging out from the dog around the needle in a circular motion. Go back into the dog close to where you came out, forming a loop. Lots of loops form the curls! Hope this makes sense. That is how I do it. Please post me a picture when you finish. Good luck with your project. Gai
