Carding in a little silk with the wool makes all the difference, I loved making the long flowing coat on this needle felted bearded collie dog.

Experimenting With Wool

It really can be very confusing for people to order wool for a project without any knowledge of what they are buying….

A big bag of wool awaits me, I’ll poke, prick, stab and pull it this way and that to enable me to work out which wool I should advise you to use as a ‘core’ wool. Being your ‘Tester’ is challenging and fun and I hope it helps when you come to order wool for the projects in Pedigree Pooches In Needle Felt.

Just finished needle felting this adorable little girl beagle puppy, she has been a real pleasure to make. Her tiny claws and handmade eyes framed with soft lashes all help to make her look real. This baby is special and I’m assured she will be well loved. I don’t know how wool can turn into something that captures the heart …But it does! Everytime. Goodbye sweet ‘Mini Margles’ xxx

Could you help me please?…I’ve been busy looking for suppliers to recommend in my needle felting book. I am researching now.

Can you provide wool batts, wool tops, various types of wool for needle felting. Do you have a cheap wool suitable to use as a base or core wool (A fast felter)

I am also looking for excellent quality felting needles, I have found lately that some are blunting too quickly and they don’t felt as well as they should.

Magazine tutorial

Been busy finishing off a needle felting tutorial. It takes a lot of time making something and breaking it down into easy stages for people to recreate. Everything has to be thought out carefully, it’s so easy to say one thing and mean another. As magazines like to work well in advance this project will be published in the summer.

I have also been back to Margate’s Turner Gallery, this time to create with Helda and the studio group, we are making a sculpture from recycled materials. Last year, as we had all enjoyed our time with artist Maria Nepomuceno so much we decided to keep the group together. The gallery has kindly given us working space to carry on creating.

Making guinea pigs weekend workshop

Last Saturday was workshop day, it was wild and windy outside but cosy and warm inside. My guests made the cutest little guinea pigs.

I thought it was a lovely idea that someone had booked needle felting classes for a Christmas present. Mum and daughters came to learn together and were going home afterwards to practise what they had learnt. I do so like these small friendly groups.

South Wales Dog Charity Fun Day

Handmade Dogs Eyes

It’s funny how some odd things can make us feel so good.

My bone shaking moment came when after a great deal of experimenting I found a new way to create eyes that will give much more flexibility of colour.

People expect perfection and rightly so, I’m often creating miniature versions of little dogs that are no longer with us, so I need the eyes to capture their spirit.

I cannot share my eye secrets yet, but instructions will be in my first needle felting book all about ‘Lifelike Dogs.’ Details will follow later in the year.
